Mattia Maestri (b. 1983, Italy) is a photographer and sculptor based in London. Formerly a graphic designer, Maestri has brought this experience into his photographic practice, which revolves around site-specific interventions at the intersection of photography, sculpture and performance. In Maestri’s process, photography is conceived as a space of transformation, where different disciplines merge together to represent the complexities of changing specific environments. “My photographs are the result of a creative process that arises from the search for poor materials to the construction of metaphysical subjects with the ultimate aim of creating small surreal worlds. The combination of organic and inorganic materials allows me to experiment with the theme of contamination and to reproduce the world around us in its most intimate, smallest version. My inspiration comes from the relationship between natural and artificial and tries to investigate the impact that man has on nature.”
